Colliers Wood Area Guide
Sandwiched between Wimbledon and Tooting is SW19’s hidden gem, Colliers Wood! Tiny in comparison to it’s bordering towns, Colliers Wood is only made up of approximately forty roads but, with a busy, rapidly changing High Street and the Northern Line transporting commuters to central London in under 25 minutes, it is fast becoming one of south London’s most up and coming and in demand areas with both families and young professionals alike. With no ‘through roads’ other than the High Street, Colliers Wood’s back streets are arguably the quietest around. You’ll find the same style of architecture as you would in neighbouring towns but, you’ll get far more ‘bang for your buck’ in Colliers Wood.
Things to do in Colliers Wood
Between them, the Tandem Centre and Priory Park offer everything for the avid shopper, we have a large Sainsbury’s and an equally as big M&S and all offer free parking. Merton Abbey Mills, with its peaceful setting next to the ‘River Wandle’ is a former textile factory steeped in history and is now home to a variety of retailers, specifically within the Arts and Crafts sector, it is also home to the small but, wonderful, ‘Colour House Theatre’.
True to the second part of its name, Colliers Wood is spoilt for woods and green spaces with four local parks including the stunning National Trust’s, Morden Hall Park, perfect for ramblers who love to take themselves away from the hustle and bustle.
For those into their sports, then look no further than AFC Wimbledon. Recently welcomed back to the borough of Merton after the best part of three decades away and the proud owners of a brand new 9,000 seater stadium. ‘The Wombles’ are well renowned for being a fan owned, family friendly and community driven football club and are within easy walking distance of Colliers Wood tube station through the Wandle Meadow Nature Park and onto Plough Lane.
Colliers Wood and the immediate surrounding area is littered with good restaurants and friendly pubs, some you can’t miss, others you’ll have to keep an eye out for or, you could walk right passed them, like ‘The Sultan!’, another hidden gem.
